Piano Removal: What to Know Before You Call

Pianos weigh 500-1,000+ lbs and require specialized handling. Here's how removal works — and what your piano might be worth.

Pianos are among the most challenging items to remove. An upright weighs 300–500 lbs. A baby grand: 500–600 lbs. A full grand piano: 700–1,200 lbs. They're awkward, fragile, and often located in rooms with narrow doorways and stairs.

Our crews are specifically trained in piano moving techniques — proper hand positions, stair carry protocols, floor protection, doorway navigation, and truck loading. We've moved thousands of pianos without incident.

Value varies enormously. A well-maintained Steinway grand can be worth $10,000+. A decent Yamaha upright: $500–$2,000. A generic upright in fair condition: $100–$300. Even lower-value pianos may earn some credit.

Non-functional pianos (broken strings, cracked soundboard, stuck keys) have minimal resale value but we still remove them at the standard hourly rate. The dump fee for a piano is included.

Timing tip: if you're donating a piano to a school or church, many organizations will arrange their own pickup. If nobody wants it, we're your best option — we check resale value first, credit you if applicable, and handle the heavy lifting regardless.
